756,867. Printing machines. CRABTREE & SONS, Ltd., R. W. Aug. 24, 1954 [Sept. 2, 1953], No. 24275/53. Class 100 (2). A blanket 8 is attached to an impression cylinder 1 by attachment bars 7, Fig. 1, secured to the ends of the blanket and adapted for engagement with a pair of shaped recesses 6 formed longitudinally of a tensioning bar 4 accommodated in a slot 2 in the cylinder and rotatable to tension the blanket. As shown, in Fig. 4, the recesses 6 are formed with parallel surfaces 9, 10 and a surface 11 disposed at an angle to them. The attachment bars 7 consist of shaped strips 12, 13 drawn together by screws 14 so as to grip the end of the blanket 8 between them. The bar 7 has sloping surfaces engaging the surfaces 9, 10 and 11 so as to be held in position by the tension of the blanket. In the form of Fig. 1, both ends of the blanket are connected to the tensioning bar 4 so that rotation of the bar draws the ends into the slot 2 and tightens the blanket around the surface of the cylinder. In the form of Fig. 5 the attachment bar 7 at one end is held in a recess 6<SP>1</SP> of similar shape, formed in the wall of slot 2 and the bar at the other end is received in one of the recesses 6 in tensioning bar 4 as above. Rotation of the bar 4 then draws one end of the blanket into the slot and thereby effects tensioning. The cylinder is adapted for rotation in both directions by the provision of another slot 6<SP>1</SP> in the wall of the slot 2, the bars 7 being changed over before the direction of rotation is reversed. The bar 4 is mounted in bearings at the ends of the cylinders and carries a worm-wheel at one or the other or both ends. The bar is rotated by a self-locking worm co-operating with the worm-wheel.
