Abstract

755,270. Hollow rollers. PUSEY & JONES CORPORATION. April 5, 1954, No. 9894/54. Class 34(1). A heated drying roll with an inner cylinder 18 and outer cylinder 19 concentrically mounted to rotate in a predetermined direction, longitudinal vanes 30 dividing the annular space 22 into compartments, the inner cylinder 18 having steam inlet openings 35 behind each vane and condensate delivery apertures 33 ahead of each vane has troughs 40 carried by the inner surface of the inner cylinder 18 and registering with the apertures 33 to collect the condensate and low quality steam discharged. The troughs 40 consisting of U- shaped metal strip welded to cylinder 18 are each connected. to a radial pipe 41 having its inner end connected to an axial pipe 42 extending through the journal 11 and bearing 14 to a suitable condensate collecting trap (not shown). Steam is supplied to openings 35 through second troughs 45 connected to radial steam pipes 46 fed from a pipe 48.
