Abstract

691,714. Hollow rollers. LUKENS STEEL CO. July 26, 1951 [Sept. 1, 1950], No. 17739/51. Class 34 (i) In a drying drum the hub structure connecting the drum wall and the journal is made up of interconnected plate elements 8, 9, 12 including an outer plate 8, an inner plate 9, both apertured at 10 to form spokes 11 and pairs of plates 12 lying in planes containing the axis of the drum and connecting the corresponding spokes 11 of plates 8, 9. The plates 12 have apertures flanged at 13 and the plate joints are welded. The drum has an outer wall 6 and an inner wall 7, steam being supplied through a passage 14 in journal 4 and ports 15 to the hollow spokes formed by plates 8, 9, 12 and thence through ports 16 to the annular space between the walls 6, 7. A pipe 17 connects passage 14 to passage 18 in journal 5 and steam reaches the annular space via ports 19, 20 and the hollow spokes. Condensate is removed by means of a pipe 21 having inlet projecting into the annular chamber and communicating at its other end with a passage 24 in journal 5. Specification 636,218 is referred to.
