Abstract

950,296. Rollers. J. M. VOITH G.m.b.H. June 22, 1960 [June 25, 1959], No. 21827/60. Heading F2U. [Also in Division F4] A hollow roller 1, Fig. 1, for drying conveyer belts, is rotatably mounted on journals 9 and bearings 10 and comprises radial I- or U- section beams 5, Fig. 4, which extend the length of the roller, are mounted on a central tube 4 and are welded together at their inner flanges 6 and their outer flanges 7 are curved to define the outer cylindrical surface of the roller. Hot air is supplied to the roller body through end faces 11 from a stationary distributer 3 and emerges to the conveyer belts through slots 13 in the central portion of the roller. Intermediate members of flat rectangular section having longitudinal grooves and apertures for the outlet of the hot air are welded between the beams 5 to prevent kinking of the belts and the axial end portions of the rollers are rendered imperforate by filler members 8. In a modification, I-beams have projecting apertured outer flanges which are welded together to form the surface of the roller, the inner flanges lying loosely together on the central tube.
