Abstract

730,637. Drying rolls. MESSINGER, W. Jan. 30, 1951 [Feb. 1, 1950], No. 2344/51. Class 34 (1). An internally heated drying cylinder with outer shell 11 and inner shell 12 formed of adjacent sections 13, 14, 15, 16 has the end sections 13, 16 mounted upon supporting devices 17, 18 each of which includes a shaft 53, 54, journal bearing 55, 56 and supporting members consisting of discs 57, 59, 58, 60, the inner discs 59, 60 engaging flanges 21, 22 of the sections 13, 16 and the outer discs 57, 58 having flanges 61, 62 received within grooves 35, 36 in flanges 19, 20, bolts 63, 64 securing the discs to the flanges 19, 20 but the inner discs being unsecured to allow expansion and contraction of the shell. Rigidity is imparted to the devices 17, 18 by axially extending webs 69, 70 and reinforcement against longitudinal deflection of the roll is provided by webs 27, 28, 29, 30.
