Abstract

952,099. Drying apparatus. MYRENS VERKSTED A.S. March 7, 1961 [March 8, 1960; Dec. 1, 1960], No. 8223/61. Heading F4G. Steam heated drying apparatus for animal food and the like has a stationary drying drum 1, a rotor with a steam and condensate conveying trunk 5 and mounted in spaced relationship along it, tubular elements shaped substantially as plane or conical discs 9 transverse to the rotor axis and connected to the trunk. The drum 1 has a steam jacket 2. The rotor connects with hollow journals in end bearings 7. The trunk is formed by two concentric cylinders 8 and 10 which connect respectively with each end of the tubes forming the discs 9. The rotor rotates in a direction opposite to that in which are wound the tube-spirals which form the discs, so that condensate tends to flow into the tube 10 where it is picked up by a syphon 11. Fig. 3 shows an alternative construction in which the tubes of the discs 9a are discrete rings or ring-segments (not shown) and are connected to the trunk through radial tubes 12 divided internally at 13. An alternative form of the trunk (not shown) has two tubes side-by-side instead of concentrically arranged. Material to be dried enters the drum and 3 and is discharged at 4. Transport of the material through the drier may be effected by air currents, by driving dogs, by controlling the level of material or by a slope in the drier in the direction of transport.
