Abstract
863,427. Hollow rollers. BOWATERS MERSEY PAPER CO. Ltd., and COWIE, J. C. Sept. 14, 1959 [April 2, 1959], No. 31276/59. Class 34(1) The hollow roller 10, Fig. 1, of a drum drier, is journalled at 14, for rotation about stationary water supply pipes 16, 17 which have pipes 31, 44 axially mounted within or the removal of drainage water from the inner periphery of the drum, which water is scooped - up by scrapers 27, 40 having wings 69, Fig. 4, extending forwardly to-provide reservoirs of the water at inlets 70a at the base of return pipes 28, 41 connected to the pipes 31, 44 on which the scrapers are mounted and through which the water is forced by pressure within the drum exerted by air under pressure introduced into the drum through apertures in an air supply pipe 36. In a modification the roller is heated by steam introduced through stationary pipes 87, 90, Fig. 6, which extend axially through a steam head 89, a seal box 91 and a journal 82 and water of condensation is removed by a scraper 94 through pipes 95, 98, 99 under the pressure of the steam.
