Abstract

1,037,031. Drying pipes. BRITISH PAPER & BOARD INDUSTRY RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. Nov. 30, 1962 [Dec. 1, 1961], No. 43090/61. Heading F4G. In apparatus for drying pipes 10 formed from a wet paste-like or mouldable material, or from a wet fibrous material on mandrels (not shown), a plurality of the pipes are rotatably supported between end plates 11 and lowered into a bed of material, e.g. sand, which is fluidized by a gas from a pressure box 4 and inlet 5 passing through a porous or perforated floor 3 and heated by finned, steam-heated pipes 6 to a temperature above 100‹ C. Each end plate 11 is mounted on a spindle 20 having a sprocket 21 adapted to be engaged by a drive chain 22 driven by a belt 26 so as to rotate the pipes whilst drying, and spring-urged seals of felt are pressed against the opposite ends of each pipe during the drying operation to prevent ingress of the fluidized material.
