Abstract

779.326. Drying fabrics. MITCHELL ENGINEERING, Ltd. (Smith, H. L.). Jan. 9, 1956, No. 726/56. Class 34(1) In an apparatus for drying a long web of paper &c. the web 10 is trained round rotary steam-heated drying rolls 11, the steam being introduced into the interior through pipes 13 leading from a supply main 14 and the condensate lead off into a discharge main 16 via pipes 15. In order to supply additional heat to the web a high-boiling-point heat-transfer liquid, such as bi-phenyl or poly-phenyl _products, is circulated through arcuate chambers 22 by means of supply pipes 23 fed by a pump 28 connected to a heater 27 by a main 24 and discharge pipes 25 communicating with a return pipe 26. Heated air may be blown into the spaces between the upper rolls and their corresponding chambers to prevent steam or water vapour being trapped therein through supply and exhaust conduits 30, 33 connected to mains 32, 35.
