Abstract

843,806. Drying fabrics in long lengths. HAAS, H. July 22, 1958 [March 25, 1958], No. 23431/58. Class 34(1) Surplus moisture is extracted from wet material as it passes over a rotating perforate tube 1, Figs. 1, 2, which encloses a stationary vacuum tube 13 having a longitudinal slot 19 and sealing elements 26, 27, Figs. 3, housed in channels 20, 21, together with rubber hoses 24, 25, capable of being subjected to internal fluid pressure to hold the elements 26, 27, in sealing engagement against the inner surface of the tube 1. The vacuum is effected by a fan 17, which expels a water and air mixture through an outlet 34. The tube is mounted in bearings 3, 4, and a tube cover-plate 12 has holes through whichthe hoses pass to fluid-pressure connections. In a modified apparatus, a body 35, Fig. 5, houses hoses and elements, whilst in yet another apparatus the hoses which, in use, may not be subjected to internal pressure, abut the tube 1, the elements 26, 27 being omitted.
