Abstract

623,964. Cigarette - making machines. BUNZL, H. June 6, 1947, No. 15034. [Class 130] Filter plugs are, after manufacture, rendered impermeable and moisture proof by impregnation with a fluid which may be a wax, a synthetic resin, or a cellulose ester such as cellulose acetate or cellulose nitrate. The plugs are fed singly from a hopper 10 by a grooved drum 11 to a grooved rubber belt 29 which co-operates with a similar belt 29A to carry the plugs past the mouths 46 of opposed ducts through one of which the impregnating fluid is forced, the other mouth being subject to suction if necessary. A spring- loaded plate 40 and a table 39 press the belts together and resilient packings 42, 43 seal the openings of a chamber 38 in which escaping fluid collects; the chamber may be heated. If the fluid is an emulsion, the plugs may pass to a second chamber and be subjected to a stream of hot air.
