653,150. Drying. WIJNGAERT. F. VAN DEN, and WIJNGAERT, R. VAN DEN. Sept. 24, 1948, No. 25052. Convention date, Sept. 25, 1947. [Class 34(ii)] [Also in Group II] In a centrifugal dryer comprising a rotary screen 19, and an agitating-drum 20, the drum has an annular projection 32 which defines within the screen two superposed compartments. Material fed into a hopper 37 is centrifugally dried in the upper compartment. and centrifugally and air dried as it passes through the lower compartment. Air supplied by a conduit 38 is impelled by vanes 31 through perforations in the port 39 of the drum. The screen and drum are rotated in the same direction, but the screen rotates at a lower speed. In a modification additional material supplied through a pipe surrounding the conduit is fed to the material in the final drying compartment. In a further modification a heater is fitted in the conduit, and an additional annular projection on the drum forms three compartments, viz. an upper centrifugal drying compartment, an intermediate centrifugal drying and treating compartment, and a lower final drying compartment.
