Class 34(1) In a drier having rotatable perforate drums 11, 12, Fig. 1, over which an impermeable web 13 is adapted to pass, each drum, which has perforated central and edge zones 24,. 23, Fig. 2, has its lower or upper periphery covered externally by a longitudinally-disposed, air-discharge unit 21 and its upper or lower periphery covered internally by a screen 16 or 17. Hot air from the units 21 impinges upon the web 13 and is drawn into the associated drums 11 or 12 through the edge zones 23 by a fan 18 or 19. The fan 18 blows air from the drum 11 over a heater 19A to the unit 21 associated with the drum 12, whilst the fan 19 similarly serves the unit 21 of the drum 11.
