Abstract
923,172. Drying apparatus. H. BEHNCKE. Aug. 26, 1960 [Sept. 17, 1959], No. 29616/60. Class 34 (1). A web of material 1, Fig. 1, e.g. a fibre fleece, is passed between an internally-heated unperforated drum sieve drier 2 and a pressing drum 3 having a perforated surface to allow the steam formed during drying to pass therethrough. The pressing drum is pivotally mounted on arms 4 and has a steam suction channel 7 situated therebelow. In another embodiment, a web 8, Fig. 2, is pressed against the drying drum 10 by a drum 9, the surface of which is perforated and which has an internal, fixed air shaft 11, the longitudinal axis 24 of which forms an angle with the line 25 which joins the two drum axes. The upper opening 11<SP>1</SP> of the shaft 11 coincides with the opening 12<SP>1</SP> of an air supply passage 12. The air from the passage 12 dries the surface of the drum 9 before passing through the shaft 11 to urge the web into contact with the drum 10. The drum sieve drier may be replaced by a drum through which drying air is passed so that both the outer surface of the drum and also the surface of the fleece after passing through the point of narrowest distance between the drums are acted on.
