Abstract
754,979. Supply and delivery arrangements for hot water storage tanks. RUUD MANUFACTURING CO. July 15, 1954 [Jan. 28, 1954], No. 20670/54; Class 64(1). A unit 34 fixed to the back wall of a hot water heater storage tank 11 near its top contains a hot water passage 43 and a cold water passage 38 separated by a wall pierced by a small hole 47. Hot water passes from the tank through the inlet 36 and passage 38 to the outlet 39 which is connected to a hot water delivery pipe 40. Cold ' water passes from a supply pipe 41 through the inlet 42 and passage 43 to the outlet 45. The hole 47 prevents siphoning of hot water from the tank if the cold water supply pipe is drained through a valve V. The cold water passage is narrowed at 46 to equalize hot and cold water pressures at ends of hole 47, and so prevent leakage through it. The outlet 45 is connected to a vertical pipe 25 leading to an elbow piece 22 connected to the bottom of the tank. The outlet of the elbow piece is larger than its inlet to reduce the speed of the cold water entering the tank.
