Abstract
754,850. Indicating liquid levels. SALLOT, L. Feb. 17. 1954 [Feb. 17, 1953], No. 4608/54. Class 123(1) A device for indicating the level of liquid in a tank 2 consists of a tube 1 open at its lower end and closed at its upper end by a cap 5, and secured vertically in an aperture in the top of the tank, a tubular plunger 6, closed at the bottom by a cap 7, being slidably mounted in tube 1 so as to project therefrom into the liquid in the tank. The plunger, which has a weight greater than that of an equal volume of the liquid, is suspendedfrom cap 5 by a tension spring 9. The upper end of tube 1 has a vertical slot 3 provided with markings corresponding to the tank contents at various levels, the upper end of the plunger carrying an indicating member 8 which moves behind the scale. The weight of the plunger, the spring tension and liquid buoyancy interact so that variations in liquid level cause proportionally smaller displacements of the plunger. In a modification, the plunger is made lighter than. the corresponding liquid volume and spring 9 replaced by a compression spring.
