Abstract

652,283. Weighing-apparatus. HATFIELD, P. W. Feb. 5, 1948, No. 3349. [Class 143] A spring balance, or other weighing apparatus, is provided with a tabular chart showing weights of dry rubber according to weights and specific gravities of latex, the columns of the chart being identified with markings of an associate hydrometer which is inserted into the batch being weighed. In the apparatus shown, the batch is suspended on an eyelet 19 supported by a weighing spring 15 whose downward extension is communicated, through a tubular member 21, to the tabular chart 24 which moves on vertical guides 25 behind a transverse index aperture 27. A horizontal scale of specific gravities is marked off immediately above the index aperture 27, the markings corresponding to those on the stem of the hydrometer (not shown), and each being in alignment with a column of the chart 24. The weight of dry rubber in the batch is then shown in the aperture 27 under the specific gravity figure as read from the hydrometer. The eyelet 19 is connected to the spring 15 by a rod 18 on which is threaded a cap 20 secured to the tubular member 21, so that the tare can be eliminated by turning the cup and then securing it by a lock-nut 22.
