573,257. Indicating liquid levels. SIMMONDS DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION, Ltd. Dec. 29, 1943, No. 21790. Convention date, March 9. [Class 123 (i)] A liquid level or contents indicator is actuated by hydrostatic pressure down to a predetermined level, and below that level by floatoperated means. A bellows 18 is supported on an annular partition 17 in a casing 14 mounted on the bottom of a tank. The bellows contains a helical spring 22 and its interior is open\to the air at 28. A float 40 on an arm 38 pivoted at 34 acts on a rod 30 carried by the bellows. A pivoted arm 52 actuated by a link 48 moves over a resistance 56 to operate an indicator in known manner. When the liquid level rises, the indicator is operated by the float until its arm reaches the stop 44, and thereafter by the hydrostatic pressure on the bellows. In a modification, the resistance is carried by a pivoted plate which is actuated by the float, the arm 52 being actuated by the bellows as before. The float may cause larger movements of the indicator than the bellows, for the same change of head. Specifications 471,224 and 482,802 are referred to.
