Abstract

Indicators actuated by floats. - A water-level gauge for steam-boilers comprises a float 25 or displacer movable in a casing 22 fixed to the boiler 1 and a diaphragm 27, Fig. 1, plunger 214, Fig. 4, or bell 220, Fig. 6, connected to the float by a rod. The surroundings of the float, the diaphragm, the connecting-rod, and an indicating- device, are all subject to the same pressure. A separate heavier liquid is employed for indicating, which may be above the diaphragm 27, Fig. 1, or below it, or, as shown in Fig. 6, may be used in conjunction with a third liquid lighter than water located under the bell 220 and communicating with the top of the gauge glass 212. In this case, the heavy second liquid seals the lower edges of the bell.
