418,311. Fluid - pressure gauges. CARTER, B. B., 12, Carew Road, Ealing, London. April 26, 1933, No. 12148. [Class 106(ii).] In a liquid-level indicator or a mano-meter of the kind in which the rise and fall of a liquid in a chamber 11 and tube 8 displaces a body of air or other gas in a tube 5 communicating with an indicator, as described in Specification 401,466, a gauze diaphragm 13 having about 200 meshes per inch is placed in the tube 8 to prevent by the formation of liquid films across the meshes the escape of the air or gas when the vessel containing the chamber and tube is inclined or inverted. A valve 21 in an aperture in a plate 19 across the top of the dip tube prevents the passage of liquid into the air tube 5. Perforated plates 16, 22 stop a sudden rush of fluid through the valve. In a U-tube manometer one of the legs of which corresponds with the tube 8, the gauze diaphragm is placed across the tube at the bottom of the U-bend.
