Indicators actuated by pressure of head of liquid.-A gauge for indicating the liquid level in a petrol or like tank 1 comprises a liquid column which is hermetically sealed at one or both ends and acts on the flexible wall of a differential pressure gauge 9, 11 so as to transmit movement to the indicating mechanism, the maximum and minimum differential pressures being exerted when the tank 1 is empty and when the tank is full, respectively. In the construction shown, two of such liquid columns 8, 10 are employed acting on opposite sides of the flexible wall of the gauge and arranged so that when the tank is empty the full head of liquid in the columns 8, 10 acts on the flexible wall. Only one column may, however, be used; thus, if only the column 10 is employed, the gauge 9, 11 is arranged level with or above the full level of the tank, while, if only the column 8 is employed, the gauge is arranged level with or below the empty level of the tank. The columns 8, 10 are connected to extremely flexible walls or capsules 2, 3 located in chambers 4, 5 which respectively communicate with the upper and lower portions of the tank; or, in an alternative construction, the columns 8, 10 are connected to the chambers 4, 5 and the capsules 2, 3 communicate with the upper and lower portions of the tank. The liquid used in the transmitting columns may consist of alcohol or other liquid having a specific gravity different from or the same as the specific gravity of the liquid in the tank 1. The gauge 9, 11 may be of the kind described in Specification 195,229, [Class 106 (ii), Dynamometers &c.].
