Abstract
221,368. Temple, W. Oct. 6, 1923. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Liquid-level and elastic diaphragm pressure gauges.-A sealed elastic vessel a filled with air under pressure is disposed within a chamber b which is filled with liquid and provided with an upwardly-extending pipe c open at the top to the atmosphere or other source of pressure to be measured, and at the bottom to the liquid in the chamber. A filling aperture f is normally closed by a cap g. The liquid used in the chamber is preferably a liquid or mixture of liquids which will not freeze at higher temperatures than -10‹ F. and will not be appreciably affected by temperature changes. A mixture of water and glycerine may be used provided with a surface film of oil to prevent evaporation. The liquid may be coloured and scales h, j are provided mounted on a panel k to which the tube c is attached by clamps m. The scales are graduated to indicate inches and pressure per square inch respectively. A thermometer n is also provided. For compensating for variations in temperature a chamber p communicating with the chamber b through a valve q is provided with a force pump r whereby the pressure on the liquid in the chamber p may be varied, the scale s being calibrated to show the necessary height of the liquid in the chamber p at various temperatures.
