Indicators actuated by pressure of head of liquid. - A gauge for indicating the liquid-level in a tank 2 comprises a chamber 9 having a yieldable diaphragm 10 forming one wall thereof and connected to the bottom of the tank by a pipe 11 provided with indicating means, the portion 3 of the pipe between the tank and the indicator 7 being filled with a pressure-transmitting fluid. The tank 2 and diaphragm cover 14 may be fitted with air-pump connections 17, 18, or may communicate freely with the atmosphere. The indicating-means comprises a transparent tube 7 provided with a scale 16. The air-tap 22 is opened and the tube 11 and chamber 9 are filled' with coloured alcohol admitted through the hole 13. Liquid from the tank is forced into the tube 3 up to the level 23 and the cock 22 is then closed, the apparatus being then ready for use. The pressure due to the head of liquid in the tank is transmitted to the air above the liquid in the gauge 7, and this pressure is balanced by that due to the diaphragm 10 transmitted through the liquid in the pipe 11.
