Abstract
639,477. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. ELECTROFLO METERS CO., Ltd. Aug. 8, 1947, No. 21828. Convention date, Aug. 5, 1943. [Class 135] A gauge for indicating the level of liquid in a tank comprises a tube 10 which is inserted in the tank so that a bellows 17 at the bottom of the tube is subject through apertures 15 to the pressure due to the column of liquid in the tank, and the bellows actuates a device for producing a positive or negative pressure which acts on a diaphragm 22 connected to the bellows so as to balance the pressure acting on the latter, and this regenerated pressure is indicated on a vacuum or pressure gauge connected at 29. Bellows 17 is connected to a tube 21 and the upper end of the latter is connected to a lever 26 the free end of which obturates a nozzle through which air at atmospheric pressure entering past a filter 24 can flow into an enclosure 23. A vacuum source connected at 14 draws air from the enclosure past a restriction 28. The controlled pressure obtained in the enclosure 23 also acts on the diaphragm 22 carried by tube 21 and serves to neutralize the action of bellows 17 on the lever 26. Bellows 17 communicates through tube 21 with a further bellows 18 subject through apertures 16 to the pressure above the liquid in the tank so that the resultant force acting on lever 26 will be due solely to the height of the liquid column in the tank. A tube 13 communicating with the interior of bellows 18 runs parallel to tube 29 as far as the pressure gauge, whereby any difference of atmospheric pressure at the gauge and in the tank is neutralized. In a modification employing a positive pressure control fluid, the gauge is connected to the interior of bellows 18 in which the controlled pressure is obtained.
