Abstract

639,339. Liquid-level indicators. EVERSHED & VIGNOLES, Ltd., and NEEDHAM, J. C. Nov. 5, 1947, No. 29546. [Class 40 (i)] In a liquid-level indicator actuated through a follow-up mechanism, a displacer 1 is held partly submerged in the liquid so that a net resultant force is transmitted thereby, e.g. through a cord 2 and drum 4, to a radial contact arm 7, the force being normally balanced by a tension spring 17 connected between the arm 7 and the follow-up disc 16 coaxial with the spindle 6. Variation in the liquid level causes the contact 9 on the contact arm to make with one or other of the contacts 10, 11 on the disc 16 to energize the split phase follow-up motor 30 which through step-down gearing 34-37 drives the follow-up mechanism in the appropriate sense. An indicator 42 may be driven by the follow-up disc 16 and a remote indicator 44 may be actuated from the motor-driven spindle 36 by a step-by-step transmission system 43. According to the Provisional Specification, coarse and fine pointers may be provided on the indicator 42.
