Abstract

Indicating.-A device for indicating the level or quantity of liquid in a container comprises a float operating a system of levers giving a parallel motion to a bar or pointer. A float 14 is carried by a lever 13 pivoted at 15, and a rod 16 operates a lever 17 pivoted at 10 in a casing 6 having a flange which is secured to the tank 1 by a ring nut 8. The lever 17 remains parallel to the lever 13. The shaft 10 drives another shaft passing through a bearing 19 in a casing 20 located, in the case of a petrol tank, on the, dashboard of the vehicle. A bell-crank lever 21 is attached to a similar lever 25 by two short links 28, 29, the latter carrying a bar 31 which forms the indicating pointer and moves parallel to itself across a scale 35, Fig. 3, arranged on an indicator representing a section of the petrol tank. The connection between the shaft 10 and the indicator casing 20 may be a flexible shaft or an electric or magnetic drive. In a modification, the casing 20 is arranged horizontally on the tank 1, and the operating spindle is driven by bevel gearing connected by links to the float lever.
