Abstract
569,172. Indicating liquid levels. SQUIRE, A. M. July 28, 1943, No. 12281. [Class 123 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] The float arm of a liquid-level indicator is made in two portions 2, pivoted on a fixed bearing 3, mounted on a transmitting mechanism 5, and 1 carrying the float 4 and hinged to the free end of the portion 2. Pulleys 7 on the end of the portion 1 and 6 on the fixed bearing 3 are connected by a band 8, so that if the pulleys 6, 7 are in the ratio 2 : 1 and the arms 1, 2 are equal in length, the path of the float is a straight line. If the arm 1 is longer, the float follows an elliptical path. The device is applicable to fuel tanks of such shape that a large range of vertical movement of the float is desirable in a limited space.
