Abstract
658,819. Electric measuring instruments. SANGAMO WESTON LTD. March 29, 1949, No. 8538. [Class 37] An instrument, such as a moving coil ratiometer, that has little or no restoring force, has its pointer brought back to a datum point by a spring or gravity actuated member adapted to engage with and move the pointer back to datum position when the instrument is deenergized, and which is moved in the reverse direction when the instrument is energized so as to free the pointer. As shown, when the instrument is energized, windings 25 are energized to attract pivoted armature 35 against the action of a spring 36 and thus rotate arm 37 carrying a ratchet 38 engaging and thus rotating gear 40 to swing arm 44 over to the right, thus freeing the pointer a for movement ; when the instrument is deenergized, armature 35 is released, and the arm 44 swings back, carrying pointer a with it. An auxiliary indicator 47 may give an on-off indication. Specification 567,435 is referred to.
