831,578. Indicating liquid levels. SUNDBERG, H. M. Aug. 7, 1957 [Aug. 14, 1956], No. 24910/57. Class 123(1) A device for indicating the level of liquid in a tank 12 consists of a tube 10 reaching almost to the bottom of the tank and connected by a pipe 9 to the top of a closed chamber 3 which is filled with a second, preferably coloured, liquid. A pipe 6 reaching almost to the bottom of the chamber 3 connects that chamber with the lower part of a measuring chamber 5 within a horizontal cylinder 1. One end wall 2 of the chamber 5 is transparent whilst the other end wall 4 is slidable like a piston within the cylinder 1. When the tank 12 is filled with liquid, air displaced from the tube 10 through the pipe 9 forces the coloured liquid from the chamber 3 into chamber 5 to a level, viewed through the window 2, corresponding to the level in the tank. The indicator can be used with tanks of different sizes by adjusting the position of the movable wall 4 to give an appropriate size of the chamber 5.
