Abstract

Cubical contents, measuring.-Comprises means by which the article, such as a loaf, may be made to displace its own volume of liquid without contact with such liquid. Two receptacles a, b connected by a glass tube care mounted in a frame d pivoted in a pedestal e. The receptacle a is provided with a thin rubber or like bag g. To fill the apparatus with a known quantity of water, a standard loaf or other article is placed in the bag g and the perforated or other lid h clamped to the receptacle while the latter is in the upper position. The receptacles are then reversed and water or other liquid is poured into the receptacle b until the level of liquid in the tube c is at the standard graduation. The head of liquid presses in the bag g close around the article, the air escaping through a tube i. A tube k is provided with a stopcock l and a mark which gives an index of the pressure required to press in the bag without crushing the article. The valves l and k<1> are then closed. To use the apparatus the loaf to be measured is placed in the bag g while the receptacle a is in the upper position. The apparatus is now inverted, and the cocks l, k<1> opened until the level of liquid reaches the required mark in the tube k, when the cocks are closed. The level of the liquid in the tube c indicates the volume of the loaf. A baffle plate o is fitted as shown.
