Abstract

519,092. Liquid-level pressure gauges. WINTRICH, W., POCKER, M., HEISS, V. WINTRICH, H., WINTRICH, E. WINTRICH, W., and HEIST, A., [trading as DEUTSCHE FEUERLOSCHERBAUANSTALT WINTRICH & CO.]. Sept. 24, 1938, Nos. 27929 and 27930. Convention dates, Sept. 25, 1937, and'May 13, 1938. [Class 106 (ii)] [Also in Group XVIII] A pressure gauge for liquids in containers such as fire extinguishers comprises a close-fitting thread of liquid 9 such as mercury contained in a capillary tube closed at the upper end 5, but communicating at the open end with the pressure chamber 1 and provided with a constriction below and/or above the neutral position of the thread 9. The container is filled with a charging liquid to the level 2. The glass tube 2 extends into a widened glass tube 6 secured to a screw cap 7. The mercury is forced from the lowest position shown at 9 to compress air into the end 5 and its level may be read through an opening in the fitting 4 against a scale. In a modification shown in Fig. 5, the device is combined with a known float indicator. This comprises a float 13 which is guided over a tube 12. A projection on the float engages in a helix formed on a tube 14 and thus rotates the latter which carries indication marks at 19. The tube 3 is arranged inside the tube 14. In a further modification the thread occupies the bend and in part the legs of a U-tube formed by bores united at the bottom in a glass rod. One bore is open at the top through a restriction. The rod is provided between the bores with a coloured inset to facilitate inspection. The bottom has a flattened extension for positioning the rod.
