Abstract

496,601. Hydrometers. MORTON, A. L. July 27, 1937, Nos. 20736 and 24877. [Class 97 (iii)] A hydrometer syringe comprises a main vessel 1, on which a scale 9 is marked, and an auxiliary vessel 5 to bring the test liquid to a constant level, the density of the liquid being indicated on the scale 9 by a spacing member 8 on an extension 71 of the hydrometer float 7. As shown in Fig. 1, the vessel 5 is in the form of a test tube mounted within and spaced from the vessel 1 by spacers 6. The extension 7<1> of the float 7, which operates in the vessel 5, engages an opening 4<1> in a disc 4 at the top of the vessel 1 to prevent an excess of liquid being drawn into the apparatus. As shown in Fig. 5, the vessel 5<2> is mounted concentrically outside the vessel 1 and communicates therewith through an aperture 15. The nozzle 3<3> communicates with the space between the vessels 52 and 1. The float 7 operates in the vessel 1 which is,closed at the bottom by a ball valve 13. The latter may be released to empty the vessel 1 by a rod 11 extending centrally through the nozzle 33.
