Charge indicators.-The cover of the cell of a storage battery or other liquid container carries a transparent chamber containing specific-gravity indicating floats, and into which a portion of the liquid can be raised or rises above the level of the liquid in the cell. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 a. nipple 13 on the cover 11 dips into the liquid in the vessel 12. Above the nipple 13 a chamber 10 is fixed to the cover 12 and contains a piston 16 with a hollow rod 17. On closing the rod 17 with the finger and raising the piston 16 liquid is drawn into the chamber 10, and floats 19 indicate its specific gravity. A rubber ball or the like may be substituted for the piston. The nipple 13 may be replaced by an extension of the chamber 10. The chamber may be mounted in a vent cap. Arrangements in which the chamber slides in the opening in the cover are also described. In the form shown in Fig. 7 the liquid is raised above the general level in the chamber by capillary attraction. It consists of a fine tube 70 with an opening 76 in its side suspended from the cap 71 by means of a slotted disc 73.
