Abstract

255,650. Linebarger, C. E. Aug. 6, 1925. Charge indicators; liquid - level indica. tors, applications of. -A vent cap is provided with a sus. pended tube adapted to retain some of the liquid within the battery, so that the density of the liquid may be ascertained by hydrometric units within the tube. In the form shown in Fig. 1 the L-shaped tube 10 containing the hydrometric units 15' is supported within the cap 11 by a disc 12 and is provided with an opening 16 in the elbow permitting the liquid to flow into the horizontal part of the tube. When the tube is withdrawn with the cap and turned through a right-angle, the specific gravity of the liquid is indicated by the members 15. In the form shown in Fig. 4 the tube is U-shaped and is suspended by a wire. The arm 29 is open at its upper end and its bore is smaller than the diameter of the members 15. In another form a straight tube is used with an opening towards its upper end, and in a further form the tube has a bulb at its lower end, this bulb being formed with an orifice which is small enough to prevent the liquid from escaping when the tube is withdrawn. This form may be used to indicate the height of the liquid in the vessel, as well as its specific gravity.
