Abstract

244,669. Jewell, F. C., and Jewell, H. S. July 20, 1925. Hydrometers. - A hydrometer, particularly for use with storage batteries, comprises a tube 1 provided with a bulb 3 and nozzle 4 and containing a tube 5 which is open at its upper end and closed at its lower end and frictionally supported within the tube 1 by resilient lugs 7. The tube 5 is preferably of a distinctive colour and contains the float 8. The liquid to be tested is drawn into the instrument until the tube 5 is filled, the liquid in the outer tube being then expelled by means of the bulb 3. The graduations on the float 8 are then read against the upper end of the tube 5. To empty this tube the instrument is held horizontally so that the liquid runs into an enlarged part of the tube 1, whence it can be expelled by means of the bulb 3.
