Abstract

<PICT:0389179/III/1> A hydrometer-like device consisting of a float B with upright rod or tube A, is fitted with a perforated boat C into which a substance is placed for ascertaining its rate of solution by observing the rate of rise of the apparatus with the aid of a stop watch. The rod or tube A may be graduated, or a vertical scale may be provided near the rod. The density may be measured by observing the depth to which the apparatus sinks in the liquid. Surface tension is measured by observing the height to which the liquid rises inside the tube A. A small hole E is provided in the socket D to which the part A is attached.
