Abstract

638,057. Liquid-level indicators. DOBBIE McINNES, Ltd., and MORE, J. June 23, 1948, No. 16837. [Class 123(i)] A method and apparatus for determining the level of the surface 4 between two liquids 2, 3 of different densities in a container 1 and used e.g. to ascertain the depth of water that has entered an oil tank by leakage, comprises taking pressure readings at two levels respectively above and below the intermediate surface and at a known distance apart. The difference reading so obtained is used to determine the position of the intermediate surface by comparing it with the pressure value for one of the liquids which may be calculated knowing the density of that liquid and the distance between the bells 5, 6.
