In a liquid volume indicating means a sheath 10, open at the upper end and closed at the lower, is connected to a container 12 with the lower end adjacent the bottom of the container and serves as a guide for a partially magnetic float 17 and the arrangement is such that a rigid probe 13 provided along its length with a scale and carrying a cursor 21 is inserted into the sheath until a switch carried by the lower end of the probe is actuated by the magnetic float 17 to complete a circuit to a light beneath a cover 19 and to enable the volume to be indicated at 20 by the cursor 21.
