Abstract

214,149. Clench, C. Aug. 1, 1923. Indicators, electric.-For indicating the level of liquid in a boiler, tank, &c., the liquid is admitted to a suspended container, through a nozzle 2, and by its weight varies the resistance of an indicating circuit. The container is suspended by a rod 6 supported by a spring 13 which is carried by an adjustable support 17 mounted on a bracket 4. When the quantity of liquid in the container 1 varies due to the change of level in the boiler &c., the rod 5 moves a contact 27, carried by a pivoted lever 26, over a resistance 21 in the circuit of an indicating instrument. When used for indicating the level in a boiler, the steam space of the boiler is connected with the container through a nozzle 3. The lever 26 is adjusted to the horizontal position by the support 17 when the level in the boiler is normal. The nozzle 3 is stoppered or omitted when the container is used in conjunction with the tanks. In this case the container may have a valve and the lever 26 may be adjusted to a horizontal position for normal conditions by opening the valve to allow escape of compressed air. A recording apparatus may be included in the indicating circuit.
