Abstract
754,733. Transformers. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Feb. 18, 1955 [Feb. 19, 1954], No. 4946/54. Class 38 (2). An oil-immersed transformer 1 is housed in a tank 2 through which passes a pipe 9 having at its remote end a diaphragm 11 rupturable by a sudden rise in pressure, the end of the pipe within the casing ending in an opening which is everywhere below the tank cover and directed upwards so that bubbles of gas developing in the oil do not pass into the tube 9. These bubbles pass into tube 7 leading to a header tank 6 and may operate a Buchholz relay 8. Pipe 9 rises above the liquid level in the header tank 6 and then curves over so that escaping oil is directed downwards, shroud 10 reducing scattering of pieces of the ruptured diaphragm.
