Abstract
664,949. Transformers. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. April 28, 1950 [April 29, 1949], No. 11436/49. Class 38 (ii). A hermetically sealed liquid-filled transformer has a space or vessel 4 above the transformer casing for the reception of the surplus liquid produced by expansion due to heating, and a sealed gas chamber 6 situated beneath the transformer which is so connected to the vessel 4 that it receives the gaseous, and not the liquid, fluid displaced from the vessel. The gas chamber 6 is preferably arranged to partly surround the lower portion of the transformer yoke 1 and the connecting pipe 5 arranged to enter the chamber 6 near its lowest point. The connecting pipe 5 may be arranged to pass through the liquid in the tank 3 or alternatively it may be welded or brazed along the exterior surface of the tank 3.
