Abstract
1,253,893. Electrode boiler. SOC. "ERIKA." 2 April, 1969 [3 April, 1968], No. 17151/69. Heading H5H. An electrode boiler comprises a vessel A, B, C; a water inlet pipe E and an outlet pipe F in the cover B of the vessel; two " submerged " electrodes L, C at the lower part of the vessel and connected to terminals I, J respectively; and a perforated grid M electrically connected to one of these terminals and positioned between the upper electrode L and the orifices of the pipes E, F to completely screen the orifices from scale rising from the electrodes. The cover B may be completely isolated from the supply circuit or may be the same polarity as the grid. The pipe F which supplies steam to a receptable R containing liquid to be heated terminates in a check valve N biased closed by a strong spring. Thus when the supply of steam is terminated valve N closes and prevents liquid being sucked into the pipe F. An air supply valve O biased closed by a weak spring and included in the water supply pipe allows air to enter the vessel AB, C when the steam pressure is reduced so that the difference in pressure between the water supply and the boiler is reduced and prevents ramming. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the vessel comprises two cup-shaped parts electrically connected and mechanically sealed together. The perforated particle filtering grid is electrically connected to and trapped between the cup-shaped parts. The other electrode is mounted on a rod projecting through and insulated from the base of the vessel.
