Apparatus for the storage of oil under water comprises a pair of tanks 1, resting on the water bed, supporting a platform 2 on legs 6 and a well-tower 3. The well casing 14 is connected by a pipe 13 to the pipe 5, by which oil is led into the top of the tank thus displacing water through the valve 10. When oil is drawn off from the tank, water enters through the valve 10 and the level of oil in the tank is shown by the height of the oil in the pipe 5, above the water level 15, since this will vary according to the quantity of oil in the tank and the specific gravity of the oil. When the tank is located in shallow water so that its top is above the water surface then water is pumped into a header tank to maintain a constant pressure on the water in the storage tank.
