895,588. Washing and squeeze-drying machines. MASCHINENFABRIK P. PFENNINGSBERG G.m.b.H. March 7, 1960 [March 10, 1959], No. 7987/60. Class 138 (2). A washing-machine container 2 (Fig. 1) is oscillated or reciprocated so that its C.G. has an upward and downward component of movement in a vertical plane, the container 2 being divided by a perforated partition 10 into two compartments 11, 12, the upper one having an opening for receiving the washing and the lower one containing an electric heating element 13. In Fig. 1 the washing container 2 is oscillated about pivots 4 by means of a motor 8 and connecting-rod 7. The two compartments 11, 12 are connected through a pump 14, hose 141 and spray head 15. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the clothes are placed inside a bellows within the container, and the bellows can be collapsed by external pressure or internal suction to squeezedry the clothes. In Fig. 4 the clothes are placed between a bellows 30<SP>1</SP> and a perforated partition 33 within a container 28 which is reciprocated vertically by a connecting-rod 27<SP>1</SP> under the control of springs 29. Water is squeezed from the clothes by admitting water to the bellows 30<SP>1</SP> through a pipe 31.
