A filter 12 at the outlet 3 of a washing machine drum can be removed for cleaning by detaching a filter housing 4 from the outlet 3 and pulling it downwardly to expose the filter 12, the housing 4 being made of rubber or like flexible material and having a capacity in its lowered position (shown dotted) greater than that of a riser pipe 10 for a suds pump 7.
