Abstract
753,302. Magnetrons. RAYTHEON MANUFACTURING CO. May 26, 1952 [June 26, 1951], No. 13315/52. Class 39 (1). Control electrodes 31 in the mouths of the cavities of a multi-cavity magnetron are used for amplitude modulating the output. The modulating potentials may also be applied to the control grid 74 of an electron gun projecting through the side wall of one of the cavities to prevent frequency deviation. The average frequency may be varied by applying a D.C. bias to the grid 74. In another embodiment tuning is by means of plungers inserted into the cavities. The control electrodes 31 are suspended from the plungers, and the plungers are carried by a movable pole-piece. The modulating potentials are applied to the control electrodes by way of the tuning plungers. The magnetron may be of the linear or travelling- wave amplifier type.
