Abstract
751,529. Combustion chambers. STIHL, A. April 12, 1954, No. 10634/54. Class 7(3) A diesel engine combustion chamber comprises inner, outer, and intermediate zones 2, 3, 6, the inner zone 2 being concentric with the cylinder axis and with the outer zone 3 in which is situated an exhaust valve 4, and a fuel injection nozzle 8 is situated in the wall of the intermediate zone 6 with its axis offset from the cylinder axis and so directed that the axial jet therefrom, if extended, would not meet the opposite wall of the combustion chamber. The zones 2, 3, 6 are disc-shaped with the walls of the zones 3, 6, being in line at a point near the nozzle 8, the side wall of the zone 6 being rounded off where it opens into the zone 2. The height of the zone 3 is between onetenth and one-third that of the zone 6, which latter is eccentric of the zones 2, 3 by between 5 per cent and 10 per cent of the diameter of the zone 6. The inclination of the nozzle 8 to a plane at rightangles to the cylinder axis is between 10 degrees and 16 degrees, preferably 12.5 degrees. An opening 7 is provided for a glow ignition device.
