Abstract
750,915. Electric fluid heaters. HYGROTHERM ENGINEERING, Ltd. July 8, 1954 [July 10, 1953], No. 19241/53. Class 39(3). An electric heater for fluid comprises a plurality of parallel heater units each consisting of a pair of concentric imperforate tubes forming a fluid-way therebetween, the inner tube containing an electric heating element the overall length of the heat producing part of which is substantially less than the overall length of the inner tube and is spaced inwardly from both ends thereof. As shown, the heater units are connected in series and each comprises a heating element 10 within a tube 9 surrounded by a tube 11. Upper units 1, 2 are connected by a tube 13 which joins widened portions 12 of the surrounding tubes 11 ; a similar tube connects units 3, 4, and units 2, 4 are connected by a tube 14. Inner tubes 9 are flanged at 15 for securing to surrounding tubes 11 and may be removed for cleaning and for repair of the elements. In a further construction, Figs. 5-8 (not shown), two heaters each comprise ten series-connected units. It is stated that the restriction of the position of the heat producing part of the element to those parts of the tubes 9, 11 where parallel flow and constant rate of flow of the fluid has been established prevents excessive localised heating.
