Abstract

528,857. Electric resistance heaters; electric furnaces. DEHN, F. B. (Lindberg Engineering Co.). May 6, 1939, No. 13614. [Class 39 (iii)] Resistance elements of tubular form are so mounted and arranged in a furnace that .they serve as radiators of heat, and as flues for the convection and circulation of air or other gases throughout the chamber. The elements may be of straight vertical form 26 or of arched form 27, so as to follow the curvature of an arched ceiling. The lower ends of a pair of elements are welded to a conductive bracket-plate 28, while the upper ends of the same tubes are welded to adjacent plates 29 which are insulated from one another, so that a set of tubes is connected in series. The tubular heating elements are formed of resistance alloy, such as 80 per cent. nickel and 20 per cent. chromium. Similar elements 24, for radiation only, are arranged in the floor.
