Abstract

750,711. Circlips. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Jan. 20, 1954 [Feb. 3, 1953], No. 1705/54. Class 89 (2). A spring clip, e.g. for positioning a shaft 26 in an odometer, comprises a flat piece of resilient metal bent to form members 38, 40 substantially at right angles, member 40 having a slot 42 extending from its end and terminating in a substantially circular opening adjacent the bend line to form legs 46, 48 adapted to embrace a groove in the shaft, whereby separation of the legs in their own plane, causes member 38 to bend about the line of the slot. The tension with which the legs engage the groove may be increased by bending the member 38 about said line. The legs are slightly bent about a line 12a so that in use, end play in the shaft is taken up. The slot is notched for the shaft groove and the ends 58, 60 are bevelled.
